GUEST POST: Battles, Whispers and Hidden Messages: Discovering Song Secrets I Never Knew I Knew

We are thrilled to share April Shipton's latest post with you. It's a must read! She says, "As a 24-year-old worship leader and Christian songwriter, my passion for real, godly music and lyrics is a pretty massive part of my life. So when my very purpose for song-writing was thrown into question recently, I found myself struggling to defend lyrics I once fervently believed. As I prayed and opened the Bible to try and reignite the vision I had been driven to express in music three years ago, what I discovered absolutely stunned me."   Read more on April's blog at  www.aprilshipton.co.uk  and see her song below.    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqYmrnU7xt8]   April Shipton has been singing and writing Christian music for over 6 years. She lives in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire with her husband, an engineer. She is currently working on producing her first EP with Christian producer FFG Audio, scheduled to be completed later this year.

He Loves Me

This year's conference theme is He Loves Me and I really struggled to write my talk around this subject.  The more I delved into the love of God the more I struggled to write about it. Many times as I sat down to write my talk I got distracted!  One such distraction was a song.  I couldn't articulate what God's love meant to me, the only way I could get it out was to write a song.  So today I thought I would share that song with you.  Only the words for now but soon we will have a good enough recording to share the whole things with you. He Loves Me God's love is... a place to go to God's love is... a feeling to feel God's love is... a truth you can trust in God's love is... a peace to rest God's love is... a memory to treasure God's love is... a future to hope for God's love is... a blanket to hide in God's love is... a joy to shout about He loves me... I don't know why He loves me... It's hard to explain He loves me

A Plea for Equality: Creatively Responding to Today's Aggressive Rejection of Faith

Have you ever felt that your whole society has a warped view of you? "You're entitled to your own opinions and beliefs." "It's a free country." "You have a right to free speech." They're phrases we hear all the time, and when it comes to opinions and lifestyles that are different to ours, we know the right thing to do is to be accepting and understanding of them. But as a Christian in an increasingly hostile world, where online conversations allow for instant, anonymous bullying with no identifiable consequences, what was once called 'free speech' has become what feels like a systematic battering of religion. In almost any secular situation, I find that I'm allowed to speak my opinion - just as long as it's also the opinion of the  secular majority.  In the online community especially, it has become extremely unpopular to believe in the existence of a god. Even more so the possibility of creation. Here's

Daughters of Davis, Tricia Bailey, D7 Band, Ballet

The King's Daughters Conference is extremely excited about welcoming UK's loveliest girl duo to our stage, Daughters of Davis . The band consists of the two sisters, Adrienne and Fern Davis, who write music with an acoustic folk/soul vibe. Adrienne plays acoustic guitar with vocals that are "gritty and soulful" and Fern incorporates percussion and provides a vocal performance reminiscent of 60's soul, but with a clear and powerful, new folk twist. Get your ticket here and if you can't make it during the day why not join us for an evening celebration with Daughters of Davis, Tricia Bailey who will be unveiling her debut single, Your Love and Grace and D7 Band followed by an awesome message.  The evening ticket is £10 with entrance from 5pm - get your ticket here . And if that wasn't enough to wow you - we also have the lovely Molly Catherine Beebee from Cirencester Creative Dance Academy   doing a beautiful classical ballet for us.   In the mea

Jesus Birthday

This morning I was chatting to Jesus and found myself asking Him what He would like for His birthday this year. "Jesus, what can I do to make You  happy, what would you like for Your birthday this year?" My prayer was a simple one but I wanted to share it with you so that you can perhaps tell me what you think.  Please pray this prayer with me and ask Jesus what He wants for Christmas this year and share with me what you think He wants. I am so excited to see what we come up with together, I really think this Christmas is going to be the most special one ever, as we thoughtfully plan for Jesus birthday.  I wrote a song not so long ago along similar lines, just expressing my desire to please Jesus, have a listen - it's called Smile .

King's Square Songbook

Smile was played for the first time on BBC Radio last Saturday.  This is very exciting for our band and we are thrilled to bits to be getting Christian music onto the radio. Our CD, King's Square, has been doing so well so I thought it would be good to produce a song book too.  It has been released today on Amazon and is also available at our church info table.  It's very exciting to be able to share our music with other people and other churches.  Enjoy!

What Do D7 Band And Bob Dylan Have In Common?

I was walking in town yesterday and spotted D7 Band's King's Square CD in the CD shop, so I did what anybody would do at such an exciting discovery -  I took a photo!  I got home and Eric put it on his blog right away.  Check out Eric's blog for the answer to the question... In order to celebrate the upcoming release I would like to give you the opportunity to have your own copy. Just leave your name and email address in the comment box and I will randomly choose one person to give our lovely CD to :)

Darkness to Light

You are going to have a good laugh when I tell you about this song! It's not the sort of inspiration you would expect for a worship song. Eric & I had an argument, I have no idea what about, probably nothing important. I was left feeling so frustrated and didn't want to do or say something stupid so kept it all inside. Feelings of disappointment lured over me and I knew I had to have some sort of release or I was going to explode. I picked up my note book and began scribbling a song, and then another and then yet another. All in all I wrote six complete songs that night and then fell soundly asleep! Of course I never expected to use the songs for anything, I just knew in my heart that I needed to do something positive rather than destructive with the way I felt. Most of all I was disappointed in myself for not being the lovely wife that I really wanted to be and knew that the only way I was going to be free from my selfish nature was with Jesus help. When I showed

Close to You

There is no long story behind this song, I wrote it out of a simple, yet desperate desire to be closer to God. It's quite a long song so I took a clip out of the middle for you to listen to. In this song I am singing along with Lorah doing the most beautiful harmonies. Enjoy. If your Church would like to use our songs they are all registered with CCLI or you can buy the CD & songbook direct from me, let me know your email address is the comment box below and I will give you more info. Have a great weekend. xxx

God of the Universe

As you can probably tell from previous blog posts, we are releasing a CD soon! It has been a very exciting journey which leaves me with one thing on my mind to blog about at the moment! All of us in D7 Band have contributed to the album so I thought I would share the story behind some of the songs. God of the Universe was written in 2005 and was inspired by a massive tree that stood in front of our home, which you can see part of in the clip above. I looked up at this tree and thought how huge it was and then by comparison how big God must be. This left me with a great sense of awe at the sheer size of God & the universe that He created. I imagined myself as a little person standing at His feet looking up at Him, just as I had stood at the bottom of this tree and looked up at it. In the midst of this awe I saw myself as a cheeky little girl standing at His feet saying in total confidence of His love for me; "Here I Am"! It was as if I knew how big God was but I al
