Your body is a like a computer, if you want to lose weight work on the code!

My heart breaks when I see people trying to lose weight or get healthier and they just can't. They end up yo-yo dieting, feeling like a complete failure, becoming malnourished or worse, putting on weight because they've completely messed their body up. So I've come up with a little analogy that will hopefully help those struggling. Our bodies are like computers, they are coded to work in a certain way. A shiny nice new computer starts up super fast and works really well, giving you no trouble at all, but after some time, it gets slower and slower and might even stop working completely. This is because you've perhaps downloaded things that have damaged the code or fiddled with the computer that confused the programming.  Your body is no different, it should run perfectly but we put things in it or neglect it and then it gets sluggish resulting in lethargy and weight problems.  So what do we do? We start dieting! We think that starving ourselves, or filling ourselves with

Daniel and Diabetes

Daniel and Amy I have four amazing children, two of whom still live at home and two who have grown up and moved out.  It was nearly three years ago when our eldest, Lorah-Kelly got married to her high school sweetheart, Samuel. It was also around this time that we noticed that something was wrong with our son, Daniel who was 7 years old. He seemed fit and well and nothing seemed out of the ordinary except that he was drinking unusual amounts of water. It got so bad that he had to get up during the night several times to have a drink and of course go to the toilet. So after about a week of this I decided it best to go see a doctor even though it seemed like a silly symptom to go to the doctor for. Everything from the doctors appointment is a bit of a surreal haze and even two years and nine months on, I can remember the shock as if it were yesterday. The doctor did a urine test and afterwards looked gravely concerned and called the hospital.  Daniel was sent over as soon as possi

Habits

One thing that I have been struggling with lately is to be who I know I am. It's not that I am faking it or being insincere, it's nothing like that, it's just that I haven't felt like myself for quite sometime and really want to get back to that place of being centered, aligned and at peace within. Getting free from depression has been really hard work this time around. It's not that when I wrote Hope's Journey that it wasn't a struggle, it was just a completely different struggle. Today I wanted to talk about something that I have been working on. Habits. In our life we could have habits that help and habits that hinder. I am extremely aware of the habits that I currently have that are hindering me as well as the ones I want to have to help me. This isn't new to me either, I have had these bad habits and awareness of the good ones I want for literally years! Some years I manage to overcome the bad ones with the good and other years I tend to lean tow

Back to the start!

Hello King's Daughters, I feel like it's been quite some time, in fact well over a year perhaps even two, since I have written anything meaningful to you. I have tried but words haven't come.  Many posts have been fillers or conference news.  I don't know what happened to me, I seemed to have come from a place and having life figured out to now not having a clue, from having much wisdom and revelation to share to having nothing.  At first I gave myself some time to grieve to loss of our church, D7 Church.  We met for the final time on Sunday 30th March 2014. Failure is hard, loss is difficult but when you have failed and lost in the things of God it seems harder. You feel as if you have let God down. One thing that no one tells you when you pastor a church is that it too, just like a business, can fail. If the books don't balance and your income is less than your expenses, you can fail. If you don't have a committed team to keep up with the work you can fail

The Daniel Fast

It's that time of year again, the beginning of a brand new season filled with exciting possibilities. Even though we all expect good things to happen sometimes bad things happen too :(  At times we can avoid these bad things by staying in line with God's pure and perfect will for our lives. Other times bad things must happen as a part of God's perfect will for our life. Either way, staying spiritually strong and connected to God is essential and one of the best ways to do that is to fast. Fasting not only makes our spirit stronger but it also cleanses our bodies. If you are interested to know more about every that fasting can do for you please read He Restores My Soul . Bondages, addictions and bad habits. He told them, "This kind can come out only by prayer and fasting." - Mark 9:29 In the verse above Jesus was answering the disciples question about why they were unable to cast out a particular demon that day. Jesus response was that the kind of demon tha

Daniel Fast - Odours, Tiredness and Pains

These are some of what can occur during a fast but don't be alarmed, it is only worse case scenario.  Many people don't go through all of this so don't worry.  This info is merely so that you understand what is happening in your body and that you don't become concerned if some of these symptoms present themselves. Odours, tiredness, dizziness, headaches and other pains - these are some of the things that you will face during your fast.  As you continue to fast you body will begin to cleanse itself and eliminate toxins.  These toxins will come out of your body wherever they can which will mean that you might sweat more and your sweat will have a stronger smell than usual.  You breath will also be stronger than usual and so will you urine smell.  You may even get a funny taste in your mouth or feel that your tongue has a thick coat on it.  It sounds nasty, but for a while you will face unpleasant odours from your body, so brush well with a natural toothpaste (as you don

All Your Life

Last week Lorah and I had the most amazing morning together at All Your Life in Cheltenham. Let me start at the very beginning! We arrived at the beautiful reception and were whisked away into the lounge where we were given a glass of bubbly. This is the before photo! Before... Then we were invited to use the Fat Burning Room to experience the Vibrating Power Plates! Well, there is no photo of this as I really don't want you to see all my fat wobbling about. It's was fun but at the same time I could really feel the plates working my muscles. You are shown a chart with various exercises that you can do on the plates to target particular muscle groups or you can just stand on the plates and giggle! Mostly, Lorah and I just giggled. We were then take to the fishy room our fish pedicure. I honestly didn't know that I would have such a problem with putting my feet in the tank. Usually I am up for trying just about anything, but when it came to the crunch, I fou

To the 'Little' Guys and Girls doing Crappy Jobs!

Great speech by Ashton Kutcher - I am so pleased he mentioned all the crappy, seemingly insignificant jobs that he has had and how each one was essential to getting him ahead.  Too many people want the fame and success but want to skip the crappy little jobs that get you there!   I wonder how many people out there are busy doing crappy jobs not realising that they are one step ahead of those just sitting and wishing for fame and success - here's to the 'little' guy who cleans the tables at MacDonald's and here's to the toilet cleaners at the gym and here's too all of you that are doing what is perceived as crappy jobs - may you succeed in whatever is in your heart to do.   I respect you and thank you for all that you do.  You are the true heroes.  To those that are sitting and wishing or scheming how to get a bank loan to start big, why not go out and find yourself a crappy job, something small, just to get the ball rolling, I am sure it will get you one step i

Nature's Way - Mascara

Mascara has been used as far back as the ancient Egyptian era. Dating from around 3400-30 B.C., Egyptians used bone and ivory to apply their mascara. The very first recorded mascara was a blend of kohl with crocodile dung, water and honey. The Egyptians produced mascaras in the form of pressed cakes and it wasn't until the sixties that mascara applicator brushes were introduced. Even with questionable ingredients, the lure of long, sexy eye lashes has always been found beautiful and irresistible.     Like all other chemical beauty products, mascara carries risks. Methylparaben, aluminum powder, ceteareth-20, butylparaben, or benzyl alcohol are often found in mascaras and some of these ingredients have been known to cause cancer in mice. Not all mascaras will be that dangerous but just the thought of putting those nasty chemicals that close to my eyes does make me worry a little.      Other disadvantages are that chemical mascaras can be drying to eyelashes. Waterproof

Nature's Way - Talc

Researchers have warned that “women should stop using talcum powder because of the risk of ovarian cancer”, reported The Daily Telegraph. “Scientists fear particles applied to the private parts may travel to the ovaries and trigger a process of inflammation that allows cancer cells to flourish. Although previous studies have raised concerns over talc, the latest findings from the United States suggest woman who use it are 40 per cent more likely to get ovarian cancer – a much greater risk than first thought. Talc is made from a soft mineral called hydrous magnesium silicate, which is found throughout the world. It is crushed, dried and milled to produce powder used in cosmetic products by millions. Some experts say it has chemical similarities to asbestos, which can cause a deadly form of lung cancer.” In other research talcs have been found to lead to cognitive problems, lymphoma, breast cancer, cancer and many other issues. All in all, it’s best to stay away from talc, especiall

Nature's Way - Exfoliator

Exfoliation is a good practise for removing the top layer of the skin, which consists mainly of dead skin cells, oil, sweat and dirt. As this layer builds up it dulls your skins appearance. Once this layer is removed your skin will appear healthier and have a lovely natural glow to it.      Exfoliating has been around for quite some time, the Ancient Greeks exfoliated by rubbing their skin with a mixture of oils and sand.  They then scraped their skin with a strigil,  which is a curved metal scraper used to scrape dirt and sweat from the body before effective soaps became available.          We have moved on from that method but many modern methods can be harmful and even dangerous.  Abrasive methods have long been hailed as the cure for wrinkles, acne and other skin conditions but these harsh methods actually remove your skins natural defences.  The result is not wrinkle free, acne free skin but rather damaged skin.   Some exfoliators are so harsh that they can cause the face to

Nature's Way - Moisturiser

A recent study published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology has potentially linked the use of daily moisturizers with skin cancer. Allen Conney at Rutgers University found that skin cancer tumours increased up to 95% in high risk mice when treated four different daily moisturizers. It is frightening to think that our daily skin care regime could be causing cancer. If you are not already discarding your shop bought beauty products and using Nature’s Way, seriously consider doing so right away. Since using Nature’s Way cleansers and toners I have found that I don’t need a moisturiser.  Firstly, sticking to the rule of not washing my face in the morning has done wonders.  All the natural goodness that my skin produces over night is left on as a protective barrier during the day.  Secondly, I find I don’t need to moisturise because natural oils are produced as I sleep at night.  Having a good cleanser and toner is sufficient to keep the natural oil production
